This collection features thick chunky posts, clean and simple lines with the nostalgia of an old barn. With flat faces, solid planes of hardwood, and simple profiles, you will fall in love with this collection. The thick case tops and crib rails complement the grandness and girth of this collection. We finish Relic in an artisan applied, distressed grey tone that begs to be touched. A Milk Street signature color is the only choice for this crib. Fossil is a pickled, elephant grey. The tones will change with your decor and the light that surrounding it. This finish was developed exclusively for us; it is the perfect grey. •CASES All of our cases are artisan built out of solid wood construction. No assembly required. Corner blocks are added to case frames for reinforced stability. Drawer boxes are built large for extra storage space with 15mm thick, sturdy sides. Each individual drawer box is also built with corner blocks to add strength and integrity, keeping drawers squared up. English dovetail joinery is used to assure drawers last. This joinery technique assures the strongest durability and highest quality in your drawers (holds up to 100lbs). We make our dovetails themselves extra deep, adding even more strength to a technique known, world-wide, as the highest of construction standards! The interiors of our drawers are sanded multiple times, then clear coated on all sides with a smooth finish to assure nothing will snag clothing. We use full-extension, high grade metal drawer glides, mounted underneath drawer bottoms to assure optimum operation for the life of your case. These mechanisms are also self-closing, which not only keeps your nursery quiet, but helps protect tiny fingers from slamming drawers! The backs of all Milk Street cases are finished, and screwed on for longevity; never stapled. The bottoms of all our cases feature a cedar dust catcher to keep clothes dust free and also to help protect woolen items. Up to 30 sets of hands will touch each Milk Street piece before it passes final inspection. Each case, as well as the hutch/bookcase includes anti-tipping hardware and foot levelers with instructions for ease of application and use. •The Batten Crib: This Milk Street 4-in-1 crib offers a transitional, flat top and vertical batten?s applied much like those you?d find on the sides of a New England Barn. This Milk Street crib can be considered modern, or traditional, making it transitional enough to use in any nursery! Through this collection, you will find great height and great girth; true of hand-built structures; true of Relic. •Where the Batten crib got its name. Board-and-batten ? Often called ?board and batt? or ?barn siding?, this building style has been used for centuries. The boards run vertically, with narrow strips to seal the cracks that form as the wood dries and shrinks. The early builders might not have understood exactly why wood moved, but they knew how to compensate for it. Rather than trying to hold it in place, they simply gave it room to breathe. The wider boards are put on first. They will shrink as much as 8 percent in width and thickness, which causes cracks to open up between them, no matter how tightly they fit when first installed. About 1/2 inch for 8-inch-wide boards. The bats come next, overlapping the boards enough to seal up the cracks between them. This sturdy style is exactly why we use it for our cribs. •Safety Features ALL OF OUR CRIBS AND CASE GOODS ARE TESTED ABOVE AND BEYOND THE MOST RIGOROUS STANDARDS. WE MEET/EXCEED ALL OF THE MOST CURRENT SAFETY STANDARDS SET BY CPSC/ASTM. WE ADD VOLUNTARY MEASURES TO EXCEED US REQUIREMENTS WITH REGARD TO PHYTHALATES AND HEAVY METALS. OUR PRODUCTION METHODS AND THE MATERIALS WE USE ARE CONTINUALLY BEING REVIEWED AND RETESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EVER CHANGING STANDARDS FOR CONSTRUCTION AND COATINGS. •Convertible High-Back Crib (4-in-1) All of our 4-in-1 cribs are convertible and are built from solid, sturdy, grade-A hardwood. Designed with stationary sides and no moving parts for safety. This crib fits a standard size crib mattress with mattresses sold separately. After your nursery needs have been met, your crib transitions into a toddler bed, daybed, and adult full-size bed. These four modes allow your crib to convert and grow with your child. All of our high-back convertible cribs (4-in-1) offer a 3 position, metal mattress support system. When your baby is first born, you will want to keep your mattress at the top or highest position. As your baby starts standing, you will know it is time to lower the heights. By the time your baby begins to pull up, usually around 5-6 months, the mattress height should be at its lowest point. Keep your mattress height in its lowest position when using your crib as a tot bed. Another name for this type of 4-in-1 crib is ?high back? crib, meaning it has a back or headboard that is higher than the other three sides. A high back crib makes a beautiful full-size bed because of the nice high back which will ultimately serve as a headboard when attached to a standard metal bedframe (frame sold separately). PLEASE DO NOT USE BUMPERS IN YOUR MILKSTREET CRIB.
